I think the first time I ever went on a date for Valentine’s Day was last year (If you’re reading this… surprise! Bet you didn’t know the pressure was that high.). Being someone that doesn’t date much, (read: at all) Valentine’s Day has always just been an irrelevant calendar notification.
So, undergoing a change over the last several months for myself with an undertone of reclaiming self-love, this Valentine’s I’m sharing things that hopefully help push that wonderful and incredibly important habit along, little by little. The day is all about love and doesn’t have to be about a significant other (but if it is for you, that’s sweet too!). First are 5 DIYs or activities you can indulge in and then material goods! You can either make/buy anything below for yourself or give as a gift!
1. Make your own Eye Pillow to help relax
Eye pillows are good if (like me) you suffer from insomnia, anxiety, or have trouble relaxing your muscles before bed. These are super easy to make! The weight of the flaxseeds and calming lavender, rose, or any scent you choose do help. Below are instructions on how to make an eye pillow:
Things you’ll need:
2 cotton, silk, or satin fabric pieces, 9.5-inch x 4.5-inch
⅔ cup rice or flaxseeds
⅓ cup dried lavender flowers
(Optional) A 3-4 of your choice of essential oil: lavender, chamomile, vanilla, or rose
(Optional) Other flower buds such as chamomile or rose.
With the right sides together and a ¼-inch seam allowance, sew around the 2 pieces of fabric
- Leave 2 inches open on a short end for turning and stuffing
- Clip the corners, turn right side out and press
- Fill the pillow with rice or flaxseeds, and dried lavender
- Sew opening shut
Acupuncture is about correcting imbalances of energy in the body. It accesses particular sets of the total 350 energy flow points we all have. So if tiny needles are inserted into these points to direct and align flows in the appropriate combinations, that energy flow is said to bring you back into proper balance.
Can help with:
Pain due to injury
3. Make a calming pillow mist for better sleep
Spray on your pillow before bed!
¼ cup (60 ml) of water
10 drops of lavender oil
5 drops of chamomile oil
A clean spray bottle
1. Fill up a clean spray bottle with ¼ of water
2. Add 10 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of chamomile oil
3. Place the cap, shake & spray!
4. Use Coloring as Meditation
This is the one I’m using right now, I LOVE IT!! You can find it here!
Similar to meditation, coloring allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus on the moment. Amazon has a huge variety of options of adult coloring books and I’ve included one I found that I liked if you scroll down! :)
5. Simple EUCALYPTUS Sugar Scrub
¼ to 1 cup coconut oil
2 cups sugar
10-15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
(Optional) Green food coloring!
Combine the coconut oil and 1 cup sugar in a bowl and mix until creamy
- Add eucalyptus oil & continue to stir
- Add remaining sugar until it reaches desired consistency
Scrub away and love your super soft skin! (Can store any remaining scrub in a tightly sealed container for later use too!)
